Yes, its that time of year...I've gotten my annual cold. It seems I only get sick once a year, usually towards the beginning of the year (when I get all my paid sick time renewed) and this year was no exception, starting on the same day I got back to work after the holiday. I left work 3 hours early today. I have to visit the in-laws all weekend so here's hoping I start feeling better tomorrow. I think today may be my worst day and I'll start getting better. I hope so....Kleenex and Purell are making fortunes off me.
So, eating wise its been a bust. Not being able to taste food with a stuffy nose just makes me want food all the more. So I've been eating stuff, but not really gaining. I'm impatient for this cold to get over with so I can get back on the restriction wagon. Experience has taught me that when I'm sick, if I get hungry I need to eat. Restriction does not work and it actually delays healing, making my cold longer. I try to roll with the loss of appetite, but in the end I need to concede to the hunger bug. It sucks but if it makes my cold quicker, I'll put up.
My biggest New Years resolution (other than the perpetual desire to lose weight) is to complete the couch to 5k. I've ALWAYS been envious of runners and marathoners and someday I'd like to run a 5k, or at the very least, be able to run at all. I live next to a bike trail (literally 50 feet from my door) and I need to USE IT! This is the PERFECT time to complete the program, while I'm still living in this apartment! I'm reading stuff on the internet about it and getting all excited. Problem is, I live in Wisconsin and its about 15 degrees right now. I need to stay excited about this or I'll lose my oomph. I realistically won't be able to start this until March at the earliest, when it stops snowing and being wintery. It'll be hard work....I NEED to stick with it. After that, I may supplement with P90X. I bought it, I should use it.
Anybody else doing couch to 5K? Anybody else as painfully out of shape as me?
I'm out. I probably won't post until I'm not sick anymore.
Peace

hey! that's awesome about the coach to 5k thing..you definitely should go for it! I'm running a half-marathon in April, and before starting training I had NEVER been able to run more than a mile at a time. I thought like only athletic people could run and such haha. Anyway, my advice to you is to just stick with it! Go for runs 3-4 times a week consistently and it will get easier! Even if you have to walk a lot at the beginning like me. I'm comfortable up to 8 miles on my long runs and I love it! Have gained a lot of muscle and lost weight, plus you get a runners high. im so excited for you go for it!! it was the best exercise move i've ever done.
oh and here's a really fun blog to read (super inspirational) about a new runner who eventually competes in marathons

i have the app on my phone but it's really cold over here in germany to and i'm thinking of pushing it off unless my mom takes me to the gym (it's free, lucky woman). it's just i really have to go on a regular basis which is hard with that woman. hmmm we'll see. if the gym doesn't work i'll probably have to wait till march to.
let's not talk about out of shape. i am extremely out of shape i don't even know if i've ever been in shape really...sad i know. anyway i think Nessa (@ http://wordsfromanaspiringhumanbeing.blogspot.com/) has started couch to 5k recently
my bff is a big girl, and she completed it last year, and is now doing it again. I tried... I got to week 3... it just takes a toll on your body.. the pounding on the ground. I'm a spinner-- I can spin for an hour but I can't run for 3 minutes??? pathetic. I know if I put my mind to, I could do it. It's just one of those things you have to actually WANT. ITunes has the program and similar ones available for download (free), and it tells you when to run, and when to stop.. and has music. pretty cooool.
i also get sick about once a year (or at least, i used to...) and it's also RIGHT NOW! freaky :] i actually surprisingly felt a lot better after working out WHILE sick, even though i could barely breathe when i first arrived at the gym. somehow i felt better when i left! i think it's great that you want to do the 5K! i've recently started running at the gym (i used to only do the machines) and it's actually kind of fun to see how far you can go each day.. i mean, i used to hate running so much! i dunno. please blog about your progress! i'd love to learn more about running longer distances :]
I hope you're feeling better! Being sick sucks :( Especially when the weather is cold and blustery. Stay strong xoxo
